WHITE SANDS
Memorial Proposal
2022
Created for the Last Nuclear Bomb Memorial architecture competition, this proposal draws from the history of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, a site deeply tied to the origins of the nuclear age. The project seeks to transform remembrance into an immersive architectural experience, acknowledging the lives and histories shaped by this legacy.
Inspired by the form of a mushroom cloud, the design abstracts this powerful symbol into a sculptural landscape for reflection. A sequence of openings, crevices, and passages guides visitors through moments of compression, release, light, and shadow, creating a spatial journey through memory.
Developed in Revit through a line-based modelling process, the structure evolves from interconnected curves into a continuous shell-like form. Set within the desert landscape, the memorial reinterprets a symbol of destruction as a place for contemplation, connection, and collective remembrance.
